Hammock Campground Comes to Saskatchewan – DiscoverWeyburn.com

Sask Parks is excited to launch its first hammock camping experience in Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. This new idea is a great affordable way to experience a provincial park in the province.

Minh Truong, director of park experiences at the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sports, tells how hammock camping was born “We always like to try new things in our parks, hammock camping has appeared in the past that people have been asking so we thought we’d try this year we’re offering this at Buffalo Pound this year we’ll see how it works and if it works really well we’ll be looking to expand it across the provincial park system .

A fresh opportunity to hang out among the trees can be a great option for large crowds. Truong says, “The Hammock Camping Experience has a Weaver structure that can accommodate up to 6 hammocks. It’s ideal for families and groups of friends who want to try something new. You can have your own hammock and hang it in the weaver structure or if you don’t have one you can rent one for $10 directly at the provincial park.

It’s no secret that Saskatchewan has a few things to deal with like wind and bugs. Truong suggests planning ahead with your hammock “we know in Saskatchewan that mosquitoes are popular, so a zipped hammock is a great option to keep the bugs out.” Aside from the bugs, the experience is unlike any other, says Truong “you’re literally sleeping under the stars when camping in a hammock”

If you’re interested in reserving a hammock campsite at Elmview Campground in Buffalo Pound, it’s $50 per night and online booking begins Monday, April 25 at 7:00 a.m. with Sask Parks.
