Catawba River Activities and Recreation

Our series of articles on getting outdoors in the Charlotte area to get active on the Carolina Thread Trail and Catawba River network is presented in partnership with local orthopedic care provider OrthoCarolina.

Queen City Nerve Presents guard the rivera three-part podcast series powered by OrthoCarolina and hosted by Dr. Keith Cradle, founder of Camping with Cradle.

In Episode 3, Keith chats with Adam Bratton of the Human Powered Movement and Vanessa Covington, Program Director for the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, about recreational activities, both solo and guided on the Catawba River.

Episode 1 of guard the river told the 10,000 year story of the Catawba River, from its first settlement by members of the Catawba Indian Nation to its role in historic wars to the contemporary battle over the coal ashes.

In Episode 2, Keith sat down with Brandon Jones, the fifth person to hold the Catawba Riverkeeper title for the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation. Jones was recruited by the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation in 2017 to serve as Director of Technical Programs, eventually succeeding former Catawba Riverkeeper Sam Perkins.

Grab a kayak and float down the South Fork River in downtown Cramerton for a trip to a brewery with ice cream before returning to the factory. That, plus a ton of other tips and tricks to get the most out of your river trip.
