AP® Summer Institute

Certificate of Participation

Each APSI participant received a Certificate of Participation after the institute. In recent years, certificates were sent by email. Prior to 2019, certificates were distributed as hard copies upon departure of the Institute. View the Academic Credit Details tab for more information about certificates.

To request a copy of your certificate, email our office at summer@carleton.edu with your name and year of attendance.

Academic Credit

The four-day workshops consisted of 30 hours of classroom instruction, and participants had the additional option of earning graduate credit through additional course work and by submitting a project for a letter grade.

All participants completed a Grade Contract form at the start of the workshop indicating their intention to pursue the graduate credit option.

Certificate of Participation

The daily attendance of institute participants was recorded for all workshops. At the conclusion of the week, Certificates were distributed to each participant via email or hard copy. Certificates indicated the total number of workshop hours attended by each participant, up to 30 total hours. Depending on the specific guidelines of your district, you may be able to use this certificate as documentation for Continuing Education Units.

Graduate Credit

To receive graduate credit, a participant must have attended all 30 hours of classroom instruction AND completed an additional project as determined by their instructor. The project must have included at least 28 hours of additional work beyond the workshop time, which typically included additional reading throughout the institute week and a special project that was completed and submitted to the AP instructor within 14 days of the completion of the workshop. The work was graded on an A-F scale. Carleton granted two quarter credits (the equivalent of 1.33 semester credits).
